• A warmer take on one of the boldest oversized eyewear designs ever made, the Preciosa 940 is shown here in classic brown Havana acetate. The rich tortoiseshell-style colouring softens the enormous proportions of the frame slightly compared with the solid black version, while still retaining everything that makes the 940 so distinctive: deep square lenses, substantial acetate and an unmistakably oversized silhouette. Designed in Holland in the 1970s, the Preciosa 940 became known in America as the Goliath and went on the develop a cult following through film, music and hip-hop. Most famously, the design was worn by Robert De Niro as Sam "Ace" Rothstein in Casino (1995, where oversized eyewear became an important part of the character's extravagant Las Vegas style. The Havana colourway gives the frame a more traditional vintage feel. Its mixture of warm brown and darker mottled tones work particularly well with the exaggerated 940 shape and offers a slightly softer alternative to the classic solid black Goliath. This is a very large frame and is intended to look deliberately oversized. Please check the measurements when carefully before ordering.
