When you think of John Lennon, a few things instantly come to mind, visionary music, peace activism and those unmistakeable round glasses. So much more than just a style statement, Lennon's eyewear became a symbol of his identity and helped define an entire era. At Retro Spectacle we're proud to offer vintage glasses and sunglasses that echo Lennon's signature look, celebrating a timeless style that still resonates today.
It was the late 60s when his now iconic round frames hit the scene when John stared in the cult comedy, How I Won the War. In the clip below he is scene wearing vintage NHS round glasses with windsor rims. Small perfectly round glasses with mid set temporal sides and bridge.

In 1971 John Lennon released the hit song - Imagine. In the video he looks straight at the camera in his gold metal round glasses which have a slight yellow tint.
John Lennon was myopic and had quite a high prescription. The round small glasses that Lennon wore were perfect for his prescription, reducing lens thickness and weight.

In 1991 The John Lennon eyewear collection was launched. Manufactured under license of @ Estate of John Lennon, Bag One Arts Inc and Eagle Eyewear Inc. All frames in the collection were replicas of the frames worn by John Lennon. Hand made in Italy by Demengo. Each frame has a name from a song title or lyric.
We are lucky enough to have one of these orignal new unused vintage frames "The Dreamer". A timeless classic from the collection, round polished gold frames with the John Lennon signature on the temporal sides.

Not only did John Lennon wear round glasses, he also wore round sunglasses. Again possibly part because of his prescription, but he already created this iconic look, it would be strange to see him wearing anything but round sunglasses.
